Donald “Don” L. Ellison, of Erie, MI, died Friday, August 17, 2018, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born October 10, 1932, in Harrogate, TN, he was the son of Lindsey and Grace (Sizemore) Ellison. A 1951 graduate from Woodward High School, he then served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Beverly A. Scheater on April 19, 1952. Don was employed as a printer for the Toledo Blade for 37 years. He was former vice president of the Toledo Typographical Union, umpired for several baseball organizations in Monroe County and was a member of the V.F.W., 3925, Erie Post, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Erie, MI and K of C., Council 7413, Erie, MI. Everything about Don, was God, Family, Country, baseball and then everything else in the world.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Beverly; children, Steven (Amy) Ellison, Beth (Jeff) Thieman and Jennifer Ellison; brother, Norman Ellison; sister, Joyce (Warren) Kingsley, 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Warren; brother, Gene Ellison and great grandson, Bronson Sanders.
Visitation will be held from 3- 8 pm, Sunday, August 19, 2018, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where evening services will be held with the Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 followed by the Erie VFW at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, August 20, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2214 Manhattan Street, Erie, MI, where he will lie in state after 10:00 am. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Memorial may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or St. Joseph Educational Fund. www.pawlakfuneralhome.com
